Are you feeling guilty?

Welcome back, my lovely mompreneurs! I hope you guys are having a wonderful week.

Today, I wanted to touch on a subject that I know may be a common ground we mompreneurs land on every so often and that, my friends, is the mom guilt.

I had a company event to attend and it was the first time I was going to be away from my little man for more than just a couple hours. It had been nine months of him and I and it was heavy on my heart the day before the event. So, I’ve come up with six tips to share with you all on how I handle the dreaded mom guilt.

Letting go of the guilt takes practice and the first step is to BE PRESENT.

Be present and make sure that you’re keeping your business separate from your family time. The other day I was feeding the baby and seriously checking my phone every two seconds. I finally caught myself and turned my phone off. I was able to have some good one on one time with my son. I mean, how many moms would kill to be home with their babies at 8:30 am on a Tuesday, and here I was just checking my phone. So again, BE PRESENT.

Next, you want to PRACTICE GRATITUDE.

Say three things that you’re grateful for each morning. Write them down, if you can. When you are in a place of gratitude, guilt can’t come out to play at the same time. Gratitude is basically an antidote for negative emotions.

Remember that YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

It’s so easy to forget or even be afraid to express how you are feeling. When I shared how I was feeling to a few friends, I felt so much better afterward. Remember, you have people who love and support you, so confide in them.

This is HUGE and easily forgotten, but when you go into this place where you start comparing yourself to others, you end up with thoughts that you can’t, don’t, or won’t ever measure up the same as someone else. And no one is perfect. EVER. All people go through struggles and challenges, so it’s fine. You’re fine.

This might sound contradictory, but DON’T FORGET YOUR “ME TIME”.

Many times, we are just striving to achieve and striving to achieve and striving to achieve so much that we forget to take a moment to take care of the ONLY thing that will make success achievable, yourself! Slow down, go to the gym, get a mani/pedi, go to the movies, take yourself out to lunch, whatever it is that puts you in that “me time” mood, DO IT. This will help you not only be present with your kids but also be present with your business.

Lastly and most importantly, ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Pat yourself on the back because you damn well deserve it! Celebrate the wins you had throughout the day. Too often, we dwell on the things we didn’t get done, didn’t happen, or we focus on the things that went wrong and we end up feeling like a failure. Instead, take a moment at the end of the day or when you are just feeling down, to just acknowledge all that you got done and accomplished that day.

You’re doing an amazing job, you must know that. We are always harder on ourselves than we really need to be. You must take care of yourself if you want to want to be the best mom that you can be, so just breathe and let go of the mom guilt.
